The Rock

The ROCK (Reaching Out to Central's Kids) is Central's childrens Sunday morning Christian Education.

All children need to have an updated Child Information Form. You may either download the form here or pick one up at Church. Completed forms can be turned in to Miss Kathy.

Children in Kindergarten through 5th grade will be participating in The Rock. The model is similar to Vacation Bible School. Children will learn about the same story for 4 weeks using different methods.

Children will be exploring the Bible using storytelling, drama, puppets, videos, art, cooking, science, and missions, just to name a few. This hands-on approach will give children the opportunity to learn and retain more.

The Rock will also give adults the opportunity to become more involved in children's ministries. Adults who have talents and passions in different areas can use their gifts to provide supplies or lead a class.

One of the advantages of The Rock is that children who are here every other week will still hear the story twice instead of missing two stories. Another advantage is that children will be engaged and excited to come to The Rock on Sunday mornings.

What does Sunday morning look like?
Children begin in the Chapel at 10:30 a.m. We will share some time of worship that relates to the story we are studying. We may listen to a character from the Bible or do an activity together. After our Chapel Time the children will go to their workshop where they will learn about the Bible Story. Each workshop focuses on a different way of learning to engage children and help them understand the story.

Each week, children will go to a different workshop where they will learn about the same story in a new way. For example, if children are studying the story of Joseph they may go to the Art Room on week 1, the Storytelling Room on week 2, the Theater on week 3, and the Fine Arts Room on week 4. Each week they will learn about Joseph using different materials and ways of learning.

Since the children will have a different teacher each week, each class has a shepherd. The shepherd stays with the class and helps the children get to their workshop, helps with reflection time, and is an extra set of hands in the workshop.

Children who participate in Fine Arts during worship will join their class after they share their gift in worship.
